Hi all,

During DATA GUARD implementation,

For PHYSICAL standby databases, Data Guard uses REDO APPLY technology,
For LOGICAL standby databases, Data Guard uses SQL APPLY technology, i.e., it first transforms REDO data into SQL statements.

Why does DATA GUARD transforms REDO data into SQL statements, rather than applying REDO data directly , like in the PHYSICAL standby database.

I guess , I am clear about the question. Please help me out, I am bit confused.

Thanks in advance.

Simply because redo application is bloxk modification that is physical modification and this is not possible with logical data guard as physical implementation is not the same, so Oracle has to transform the physical modification to a logical one, that is a SQL statement.
